The Lottery
I realized the other day that I am about $9,000 to $10,000 ahead on the lottery. I achieved this accomplishment by not playing it. At $1.00 per day not played for over 20 years, that's a lot of money on the winning side.
I will play the lottery now and then, when the grand prize is exceptionally large. This usually involves someone at work getting many of my coworkers to pool their funds and buy several tickets. I do this just for insurance purposes. If the place I work was to go out of business because many of its employees won the lottery, I don't want to be on the short end of that. That would be a double whammy for sure.
We have a local state lottery where the slogan admits that the lottery is not a good thing by the focus of the slogan. The slogan says, "Odds are, you'll have fun." A more realistic slogan would be, "Odds are, you'll lose money."
