Surviving Reality Shows
Reality shows are sinking lower and lower in order to come up with new themes. With the exception of one or two of them, I wonder if they are watched for their comedy as opposed to the games they portray.
The creator of Survivor actually participated in a number of extreme survival exercises and even produced some for television. This show, while a good one in my opinion, has little to do with real survival skills. In fact, on an early show, a military survival expert was one of the first ones voted off. We all have been surprised to discover that Survivor has everything to do with a different sort of reality. The winner has to have good interpersonal skills, such as the ability to play games, suck up to others, lie, stay under the radar and direct attention to other players and their problems.
For the most part, contestants picked on many reality shows seem to be picked not because they will be good contestants, but because they represent extremes in personality types. Jerry Springer Show guests would make excellent contestants for many of the newest reality shows. When I watch these people expose their innermost thoughts and fears to the camera, I realize that the human gene pool has dropped several points in its average. "I was crushed when I heard what she said about me. I thought she was my friend (and not a player in this game anymore because of our friendship)." "He made a play for my girlfriend (of two weeks) right in front of me. And I don't believe her. She is acting like real slut, right there in front of everybody." "She has a nice body, and when we were in the hot tub together (I began thinking with the brain I keep in my pants), I was like 'Wow, turn up the heat!' I hope she picks me, cause she is so cool."
Don't they realize and can't they see how silly and stupid the things they are saying make them look? That was a rhetorical question. I can survive without an answer.
