Life's Ups and Downs

I recently read a motivational article. In it, a woman told a story about how she worked through a not too difficult life situation (at least it seemed so to me). Her picture appeared in the article along with the caption, "Jane has survived life's ups and downs." I wanted to add, "Well, duh! So far!" What choice did she have, surviving or not surviving--and eventually none of us survive, do we?

All of this got me thinking I might like to have as my epitaph, "He did not survive life's ups and downs." It makes more sense doesn't it?
