Kentucky Speedway training program
Because of our proximity to the Kentucky Speedway, there is now a local NASCAR apprentice training program in our area. I have been able to get free admission on several occasions to watch the training in progress. There have been record numbers of apprentice drivers practicing on the local courses, which we are fortunate to have an abundance.
It is amazing to see them perform their feats of daring, considering how inexperienced some of them may be. It is impressive to watch them zipping in and out of speedway traffic as they tailgate and take all sorts of risks while learning the professional race drivers' trade. I understand apprentice drivers are being accepted with little or no checking of driving skills. I have considered the apprentice training program myself, but at my age am too fearful for my safety.
So I will continue to stay back and let the daredevils try out their skills on the local training courses, I 71 and I 75, and the recently added course, I 275. One driver was so daring today that he forced me onto the berm so he could pass the driver in the lane beside me with inches to spare. Impressive!
